ஆடுகளம் -சேவல் போர் (cock fight)

One among the interesting thing that I found in Pollachi is the traditional Cock fight (சேவல் போர்) . Cock fight became famous in the tamil movie Aadukalam. From then I wanted to view a live fight. I got a chance and had so much fun watching the live fight.

The cocks are fed and trained so well that they are ready for fight. The way each cock look is so majestic. There are lot of predictions done before each cock goes for a fight. The trainers are able to understand the body language of the cocks.

Words cannot express the experience... to be simple it was a wonderful experience, thrilling and different!!!

A long Trip!!!

After a long time, I went out for a 3 day trip.I went along with my chittapa. It was a fun filled trip and it was a new experience. Started from Chennai by Train to Coimbatore. Reached Kovai on Friday morning. Took a bus to Pollachi which was a 60 min travel... The weather was so fine, drizzling, cold breeze and especially pollution free environment. From Pollachi we took an other bus to Sethumadi, which was our destination! The environment was entirely different with lot of greenery around us, traffic free and it was a heaven on earth.

We reached the place (My aunt's home) around 8.30AM . It was a marvelous village, surrounded by mountains on four sides... It was green every where. It was so peaceful and pleasant. My uncle has a passion for pets and he had lot of roosters and hens at his home. Comparatively listening to the sound of our pets is finer than the busy city sounds!

Got ready, dressed up , had special break fast and we started our journey to a river near by. It was a 10 min travel from my aunts home, Aanapari river! The river was a nice sight for our eyes. It was so pure. Had a good time watching the river flowing. Had sweet&hot mangoes and went on a ride till the Sarkarpathi entrance (Sarkarpathi is a Wild reserve forest).

It was raining and the weather was awesome! Me and my chittapa went in a new bike (Apache 150cc) . Then came home refreshed ourselves and went to Aaliyar dam which was a 40 min travel by bike. It was a huge dam constructed during 1959-1969 .Aaliyar dam is in the foothills of Valparai , in the Anamalai hills of the Western Ghats. My chittapa was reminding me that the old film 'Kadhalika Neramillai' was shot in the Aaliyar (a bungalow).

we then went to an aquarium. I ate fish(fried dam fish)! Then returned home had chit chat with my aunt, uncle , cousins and went to bed, but could not sleep for very long because the cocks at home started making noise at the top of their voice. Though it was nice to hear the sound it was a bit irritating!

Next day morning we are went to Topslip, which is located above 800 feet from the sea level on the Aanamalai mountain range. It was a nice place, though it was sunny, it was cold enough.
We saw deer, wild pigs, elephant's dung (ha ha ha) , monkeys. We spent a couple of hours walking taking snaps and then returned back home.

Then we went to the Sarkarpathi wild reserve forest. Then we returned home and saw the famous cock fight (live)!!!! Returned home, had our dinner and slept off.

Then we had to leave to Coimbatore for a marriage, started from Sethumadai to Pollachi, Pollachi - Coimbatore, then to the marriage hall. New change in the plan happened just like that. We went to Madurai....!!!! Coimbatore to Madurai was a boring and tiring journey. The weather started to become worse as we started from Coimbatore. Tired and exhausted reached Madurai and attended a function there.

Around 9.30 started from Madurai and reached Chennai the next day. It was a long, good, exiting and fun filled trip. Chennai-Coimbatore-Pollachi-Sethumdai-Aaliyar-Topslip-Sethumadai-Pollachi-Coimbatore-Madurai-Chennai!!!!
