I feel very proud to say that I have never failed in any of the job interviews I’ve attended since my college days. It all started in 2009 when I faced my first interview at Cybernet Slash Support during campus placements. The interviewer asked me to talk about anything I liked, and I chose to speak about the studious first-benchers and the naughtiest last-benchers in my class. He appreciated the way I greeted him before starting and how confidently I delivered my answers. And yes, he handed me the offer letter right away!
My second interview was also during my final year of college with a company called Ajuba. Out of 100+ students, I was the only one selected for a face-to-face round with the HR Manager. I answered every question he asked, and once again, the offer letter was printed on the spot!
How did this happen?
Interviews are conducted to test your confidence, communication skills, and attitude more than just your technical knowledge. Confidence is key! If you ask me for some quick interview tips, I’d say:
- Answer boldly
- Answer with confidence
- Be honest and to the point
- Accept your mistakes
- Learn to say ‘No’ if you don’t know the answer
In the past 16 years, I’ve attended more than 15 interviews. I’ve been fortunate to receive positive results in most of them because of a little bit of knowledge and a whole lot of confidence. Today, I am in a position where I interview candidates and mentor them to do their best. My journey has taught me that success in an interview isn’t about luck—it’s about preparation, presence of mind, and how you present yourself.
How to Prepare for an Interview
I’m not here to give you a question paper! What you need to focus on is preparing yourself to answer questions clearly and confidently.
Here are some practical tips:
Before the Interview
- Dress neatly and appropriately.
- Carry the required documents.
- Be on time.
- Go through your resume thoroughly.
- Prepare a brief summary of your work experience.
During the Interview
- Greet the interviewer with a smile.
- Maintain eye contact and listen carefully.
- Answer politely and stay calm, even under pressure.
- If you don’t know the answer, admit it confidently.
- Don’t rush through your answers.
Things to Avoid
- Don’t keep checking your watch.
- Don’t play games or listen to music on your phone.
- Don’t talk over the phone in the waiting area.
- Don’t ask for immediate feedback on your performance.
After the Interview
- Be patient and wait for the results.
- If you don’t hear back in a couple of days, follow up with the HR team.
- If you’re selected, feel proud and prepare for the next step.
- If you’re not selected, don’t get disheartened. Learn from the experience, work on your mistakes, and do better next time.
Remember: Interviews Are Not a Nightmare
A successful interview depends on how well you communicate, how confidently you present yourself, and how calmly you handle the situation. Whether you are a fresher or someone with years of experience, the key to success is simple: stay prepared, stay positive, and be yourself.
Good luck with your next interview! All the best!
