ஆடுகளம் -சேவல் போர் (cock fight)

One of the most interesting things I experienced in Pollachi was watching a traditional cockfight (சேவல் போர்). The cockfight became quite popular after the Tamil movie Aadukalam . Ever since I watched the movie, I wanted to experience a live fight. Luckily, I got the chance when I visited Pollachi with my family. My uncle took me to watch a real cockfight, and it was an unforgettable experience! I even got to meet some of the biggest and strongest cocks that were bred and trained specifically for these fights. These birds were majestic and well taken care of. The trainers feed them a special diet and train them meticulously to prepare for fights. It’s fascinating how experienced trainers can understand the body language of the cocks and predict their chances of winning. Before every fight, there’s a lot of excitement and anticipation in the air. People closely observe the birds, guessing which one might win. The energy around the fight was thrilling and intense, unlike anything I ha...

A long Trip!!!

After a long time, I went on a 3-day trip. I traveled with my chittapa, and it was a fun-filled adventure and a brand-new experience. We started from Chennai by train to Coimbatore and reached Kovai on Friday morning. From there, we took a bus to Pollachi, which was a 60-minute journey. The weather was so perfect—drizzling, with a cold breeze, and most importantly, a pollution-free environment. From Pollachi, we took another bus to Sethumadai, our destination! The scenery changed completely—lots of greenery, no traffic, and it felt like heaven on earth. We reached my aunt’s home around 8:30 AM. The village was absolutely marvelous, surrounded by mountains on all four sides. It was green everywhere—a peaceful and pleasant retreat from the noisy city life. My uncle has a passion for pets, and his house was full of roosters and hens. Compared to the busy city sounds, waking up to the clucking of hens and crowing roosters felt much nicer! We got ready, had a delicious homemade breakfast, a...

First trip alone!!!!

I went to Madurai to my aunt’s home, all alone… It was a nice experience, yet a boring one too. Train journeys are always the best mode of transport! My dad dropped me at the station and waited until the train departed. With a mix of fear and excitement, my journey began. The journey became lonelier and more boring as time went on. A lady sat next to me and slept the entire time. On the other side, a group of politicians were busy bribing the ticket examiner for confirmed seats. A few of them even fought over a chicken piece in the biryani! I took my favorite Lays (the green pack) with me and ended up buying six coffees on the train! I passed time listening to songs on my Samsung iPod (which technically wasn’t mine—it was a gift to my sister, but I’m the one who always uses it!). I reached Madurai at 8:30 PM, where my mama was already waiting for me, even before the train arrived! My dad waited until the train departed, and my mama was waiting before the train arrived—thus marking my s...
